Registering for and joining a Teams webinar

Some Teams meetings in the REF Hub will run as webinars. These need to be registered for in order to gain access, and the process for joining them is slightly different from a usual Teams meeting.


As with all REF Hub Teams meetings, we highly recommend using a private/incognito window for Teams webinars.


Register for a Teams webinar

  • To register for a Teams webinar, you will need to be sent a registration link
  • Once you have this link, click on it
  • On the page that opens, click Sign in with your school or work account 
  • On the next page, click on your REF Hub account


NOTE: If you see multiple accounts listed, please close your current tab and log into the REF Hub from a private/incognito window

  • In the main webinar page, click the Register link on the left
  • Fill out your details as required, and tick the box for Microsoft's terms and conditions
  • Click Register
  • Close the pop-up that appears
  • To add an event to your REF calendar for the webinar, click on Add to Calendar and then Microsoft 365
  • In the Outlook tab that opens, edit the event as necessary and click Save




Join a Teams webinar

  • To join a Teams webinar, you will need to find the link to the webinar. This will either be in the message sent to you inviting you to register, or the event you created in your calendar in the steps above
  • Click the link

  • Once you are on the webinar page, click Join on the left-hand side
  • At this step, Teams will either prompt you to open the desktop app, or will do it automatically.
  • Close any pop-up or Teams join window that appears outside your browser

  • Return to your private/incognito window and find the page that looks like the screenshot to the right
  • Click Continue on this browser
  • This will open a Teams loading screen for a moment
  • If you asked for permission to use your camera and/or microphone, allow this
  • Configure your audio and camera settings as you desire, and click Join now

If you see no error message, skip this step:



  • If you see a screen saying You do not have access to this event or You have not registered for this event, close this Teams window, return to your private/incognito window










  • Find a page that looks like the screenshot on the right and click Continue on this browser
  • Next, follow the steps above to configure your audio/camera settings
